Just five minutes can help you avoid burnout

We've all done it. You wake up, make a coffee, open your inbox and get sucked into the endless demands of the day. Before you know it, it's 4pm and you feel like you've been running on a treadmill going nowhere all day.

Sound familiar?

This cycle doesn't just waste time, it sets the stage for burnout and disconnection.

The solution? Five minutes of intentional planning.

Here’s how:

1.        Clarify priorities

Stop trying to multitask. Multitasking is a fallacy. Instead, focus on what matters most. Decide on the top three tasks that will make the biggest impact to your day.

Action Step: Write them down on a sticky note or planner for easy reference. Don’t work on anything else until they’re complete.

2.        Time box your calendar

Control your day by scheduling focus time for these three priorities.

Action Step: Block out 1-2 hours for deep work and treat that time like a meeting.

3.        Set boundaries

Turn off notifications and let others know you will be unavailable. You can also set up an email autoresponder. Boundaries protect your time and energy.

Action Step: Use “Do not disturb” mode to minimise distractions.

4.        Plan breaks

Schedule time to recharge, even 10 minutes, to maintain your energy levels and focus.

Action step: step away from your desk for a quick walk or stretch every few hours. And block out at least 30-minutes for lunch.

5.        Reflect

End your day by reviewing what your accomplished and planning for tomorrow.

Action Step:  Write down 1-2 priorities for tomorrow to stay ahead.
